THE grief-stricken mother of a man killed in a hit-and-run accident has paid tribute to her beloved son and spoken of his love for his two young children.

Steven Curtis, 23, was named by police as the victim of the weekend accident, in Upper Mayne, Basildon.

They have also confirmed a 36-year-old Basildon man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Builder Mr Curtis was walking home from a fair in Gloucester Park when he was hit by a gold Vauxhall Vectra while crossing Upper Mayne, near to the footbridge.

Steven's mum, widow Susan, of Mellow Purgess Close, Laindon, spoke of her devastation at the loss of her son.

She simply said: "Steven was a wonderful son. We will miss him so much."
