Kids Choir 2000 sing and have their own band
FUN, music, travel, free visits to zoos and theme parks and then a whole lot more fun.
It sounds too good to be true, but it’s all promised to young people between eight and 16 in south Essex. All they need is the ability to hold a melody with their voices.
Kids Choir 2000 is on the lookout for new recruits.
Numbers are down from a peak of 150 and the choir wants to return to the days when it was one of the biggest noises in Essex.
Their administrator Jenny Titford, from Billericay, said: “We are still able to meet our busy programme, but we want to bulk the choir up to produce some stronger harmonies.
“We are looking for young people across the range. They don’t need to be highly trained singers, just children with good voices who have some grasp of holding good harmonies. “In return, we can guarantee them an absolutely fantastic time.
“Their voices will also be helping to raise a considerable amount of money for charity.”
Founded in 1996, the choir handles a large repertoire, mixing music from the charts with songs stretching back over the past decade.
Kids Choir 2000 is backed by its own rock band, and specialises in three-part harmonies and punchy arrangements.
Jenny says: “We’re a proper gigging choir.
“Right now, we’re practicing numbers from Girls Aloud and Coldplay, along with older numbers like Band on the Run.”
In the course of more than 200 concerts, the band’s travels have taken it as far afield as Germany, as well as to places such as Thorpe Park, and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
It has also performed on TV and radio. “We’ve really been all over the place, and sung in some fantastic venues,” says Jenny. “There are just so many perks.
“When we sang at Colchester Zoo and Thorpe Park, for instance, the children were all given free admission to the attractions.”
