Chloe Grace Moretz has revealed she loves a good cry over soppy films.

The Kick-Ass star takes on her first romantic lead role in tearjerker If I Stay, based on the smash hit book of the same name.

She plays a young cellist in the throes of first love when she and her whole family are in a serious car accident and she is left in a coma.

Speaking on the red carpet at the world premiere of the highly-anticipated film, Chloe said she always turns to the same film, starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey, for a good cry.

"Beaches is my number one. It's more than a cry, it's a deathly sob when you end up on your bedroom floor comatose.

"I think that people want things that make them feel and want things that make them be someone different and when it's over they learnt something about themselves."

The book by Gayle Forman has inspired a devoted following and Chloe said she was compeletely captivated by it.

"It was how realistic it was and how raw it was. It wasn't a frou-frou, happy-go-lucky kind of character about cotton candy or sunshine. It was a realistic character that dealt with real issues and it wasn't based on a silly disease but a real-life issue that happens all the time. It happens so many times in a day that we don't even report about it on the news that much. It was real palpable issues that I really wanted to portray."

Dressed in a floor-length gown for the Hollywood premiere, Chloe was joined by her on-screen love interest Jamie Blackley, as well as her on-screen parents Mireille Enos and Joshua Leonard. Also on the red carpet was Liana Liberato, who plays Chloe's best friend in the movie and who received a red velvet cupcake from her pal during the premiere to celebrate her 19th birthday.

If I Stay will be in UK cinemas on August 29.
