The upsets continued to flow thick and fast on day two of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship at Purfleet.

Following the departure of tenth seed Ronnie Baxter on Monday, former champion Bob Anderson and world number 16 Mark Walsh both bowed out of the tournament at the first hurdle on Tuesday afternoon.

Walsh was the first to go, losing 3-0 to Dutch teenager Rico Vonck.

The 41-year-old's cause was not helped by a bout of "dartitis", a mental block that stops the player from releasing the dart smoothly, but Vonck was a deserved winner.

Nicknamed "Sparky", 19-year-old Vonck caught fire early on, hitting 110 and 140 outshots on the way to taking the first set.

Walsh threatened a comeback in the second, but missed doubles cost the Hertfordshire professional dear as Vonck hit another superb outshot, this time 138, to double his advantage.

The third set was a formality as Vonck romped away to set up a second round clash with Canadian qualifier Thomas Cyr, who caused another minor upset in defeating Welshman Barrie Bates.

Anderson, meanwhile, crashed out 3-1 at the hands of Norfolk qualifier Darren Webster.

The 38-year-old, who failed to win a match in his only previous visit to the Circus Tavern last year, took a commanding 2-0 lead before "The Limestone Cowboy" shot back to take the third set.

Webster was not to be denied, however, and two 14-dart legs were enough to send Anderson riding off into the Essex sunset.

Tuesday afternoon's fourth and final match saw Denis Ovens defeat Steve Smith 3-0.
