Billericay residents sent "end of world" leaflets
4:34pm Tuesday 11th December 2012 in News By Gina Marden
DISTRESSED residents have received disturbing leaflets about the end of the world.
Several homes in Billericay have received Christmas cards - hand delivered to their homes - containing leaflets warning them that the end of the world is nigh and Judgement Day is coming.
The leaflets are thought to be in anticipation of December 21 2012, which is heralded as the end of the world in some religions.
They are being invited to join an event in Billericay High Street.
Police are trying to track down the person behind the literature.

How stupid do you have to be to believe this old guff? The Echo, as usual, got it wrong too as the 21st December has nothing to do with any religion, it's just when you have to turn the page of the Mayan calendar.

Didn't I recently read somewhere that the end of the world had been cancelled due to the fact that the prediction had come from a magic mushroom trip in the 70/80s and is nothing to do with the Mayan calendar?

What a complete waste of Police time! Surely they have better things to do than track down some mental religious cult that doesn't have a clue what it's talking about for posting a leaflet through a door!

I'm getting distressed at constantly receiving leaflets through my door telling me of all the great takeaway deals there are in my area! Will the police do something about that?! What a complete waste of Police time! I think the film "Idiocracy" has come true at last - the recipient of the dastardly circular that reported it to the Echo should be the new Idiocracy president.

Then again, in another sense, they are all connected in that they are all derived from mans efforts to explain how the world works in the complete absence of any knowledge of the objective sciences. On that basis the old testament is a fair attempt at explaining the world for a bronze age middle eastern tribesman, ditto the new testament and the Roman era scribes who wrote it. That certainly doesn't make it true though.

Carnabackable wrote:Agree completely. Most people seem to think that the atmosphere is so big that our pollution won't affect it but in reality the atmosphere is only a tiny thin fragile layer that we have been abusing and polluting for centuries. It is so thin that high flying jets have most of the earths atmosphere below them, and if the earth was the size of a football the atmosphere would only be the thickness of a layer of tissue paper wrapped around it. Anyone who doesn't think we have damaged that tiny thin layer is off with the fairies.
