Man who hit wife and smashed caravan window spared jail

A MAN who hit his wife and smashed her caravan window at the Dale Farm traveller site has avoided a prison stretch.

Jimmy Egan, 44, received two years community service and was ordered to pay one hundred pounds compensation to wife Nora 43 on December 2 last year.

Egan admitted one count of criminal; damage and another of assault at Basildon Magistrates Court.

Egan, who made headlines across the globe when he squared up to police and bailiffs during the Dale Farm eviction, now lives in social housing in Hertfordshire.

Mrs Egan was one of a number of high-profile spokeswomen for the illegal site in Crays Hill.
