Cable theft gang jailed
FOUR men, who were part of a gang who stole nearly £715,000 in railway and phone cable, have been jailed.
The men carried out the attacks on train lines in Hertfordshire, Essex, Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire and London.
Christopher Cruz, 33, of Mellow Purgess Close, Laindon, Kris Kreuder, 36, of Elizabeth Way, Laindon, Shaun Nembhard, 44, of Coopersales, Basildon, John Michael Newton, 36, of Newberry Side , Laindon all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal cable from the railway network.
The court heard how the organised gang carried out 47 attacks at various times of the day between 1 May and 30 August 2011, stealing railway cable and BT communication cabling.
Cruz was jailed for three years and nine months, Nembhard was sentenced to two years and three months; and Kreuder was ordered to serve one year and four months in prison.
Sentencing for Newton was deferred until March, to take place following the conclusion of other unrelated charges currently under investigation.
