Chloe’s gift aid to Shoebury band
A MARCHING band from Shoebury are hoping to perform at Disneyland Paris – and one of their members has been secretly fundraising to secure them a spot.
Chloe Foskett, 12, from Shoebury, presented her band mates at C-Side Academy, which play on brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, with £100 which she had raised over the past fewweeks.
Luke Drewer, who runs the academy, said: “It was completely out of the blue – she came in with an envelope full of notes and change, and said she’d been doing cake sales, car washing, and dog walking.
“You don’t really expect something like this, so for her to do it off her own backwas pretty amazing!
She is an absolute star.”
The group announced its intentions to audition for a spot at the resort before the school holidays, and hope to send an audition tape before Christmas.
Luke said: “We wanted to do a tour and one of the opportunities was Disneyland Paris.
“We’re aiming to go in 2015, to give us time to raise money so it’s not such a burden on the children’s parents.
“We’ve started to learn the Disney repertoire, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and the music from Cars.
“The standard is so high - if we’re successful, we will perform in the main parade and also in some concert-style sit-down performances around the park.”
The band has around 30 members and practices at Shoebury High School, in Caulfield Road, in an outdoor cabin.
Luke added: “We’ve had so much support from all of our members – they’re all really excited about it, and their parents are really supportive too.
“It bonds everyone together and keeps them motivated.”
Luke hopes to increase the membership of the band and take 50 children to the performance in Paris, costing £23,000.
The group will host its own performances and events to raise a minimum of £10,000, including holding curry nights and boot sales to raise the cash.
