Failed drugs test ends Lorna's world bodybuilding dream

Basildon Recorder: Failed drugs test ends Lorna's world bodybuilding dream Failed drugs test ends Lorna's world bodybuilding dream

A BODYBUILDER’S dream of competing at the world championships has been dashed after she failed a drugs test.

Lorna MacDonald, 29, from Leigh, was set to fly out to Miami next month to compete in the worlds after finishing second in the British finals.

But she now faces a seven-year ban from bodybuilding after a urine sample tested positive for drugs.

Lorna denies any wrongdoing.

She said: “I’m devastated. I’ve been working hard for two years solid and I believe you shouldn’t have to take anything extra if your food and training are right.

“I’m so stringent on putting things in my body that if I have a headache, I don’t even take a tablet.

“With food I make everything from scratch – nothing goes into my body that isn’t natural.

“If I’d done something wrong then fair enough, but I wouldn’t take part in a national finals knowing I’d taken something and embarrass myself”

Lorna had two urine samples taken from her at the competition in Manchester on September 15.

She said: “I passed a polygraph test at 10.30pm the night before the show.

“As soon as I stepped off stage the next day, we were asked to give a sample – which I happily did – and now they’re saying it has failed.

“There’s nothing you can take in 24 hours that will make your body better.”

The governing body has given Lorna the option of paying $150 to test her second sample, and a further $450 to find out which substance was found.

She added: “It’s soul destroying. I’ve been so upset. I want to give up, but I’ve got to keep battling through and fight to prove my innocence.

“I want to spread the word this isn’t right, and they can’t get away with it.

The British Bodybuilding Federation was unavailable to comment.

Surely the onus is on the BBF to prove their accusation and tell HER what was found. Then if found to be right THEN get her to pay... madness!
It's almost like they know people will want to prove their innocence so will cough up the money and then what when the results come back as "substance found in soya products".. will she get a refund?

Its hard to know who to believe, the British Bodybuilding Federation with a reputation for excellence and honestly or a desperate competitor under pressure to get in peak condition for the finials, surrounded with temptation to use a little 'help' who has provided a positive sample and appears to be stalling over having the second one tested.

Then again she did pass the lie detector and mistakes can happen. Its a mystery.

Many federations do not actually test for drugs although that would mean competing with the big boys (so to speak) .

So only bodybuilders are allowed an opinion on this story then?

I agree with Carol on this particular issue, I cannot understand what makes women want to look masculine and muscular.

Being fit and toned is one thing but looking like Jodie Marsh is quite another. However, this young lady doesn't look overprocessed like Jodie Marsh does and she doesn't have the horrible tangerine tan either.

Lorna looks pretty but I don't understand why she would want to build muscles because as people age, if they've done this bodybuilding, it rarely stays like that and she is under a lot of pressure to keep it that way.

As for this debacle, having to pay to find out what the results meant, it all seems an expensive hobby to me.

Lorna could look fit and healthy doing swimming or other kinds of sports and of course she is free to decide whatever method she wants to use. However, I see men coming out of the gym near me and they look overprocessed too. It's not attractive.

I think some muscle tone looks good but I sincerely hope Lorna will not end up looking like Jodie Marsh.

I see the usual team of thumbs downers have been at work on this page and I really couldn't care less if you thumbs down my comments. It just shows I have struck a nerve.

I doubt there is one single person here who could describe what is attractive about overprocessed overmuscled bodies - on women or men (I don't discriminate).

but there is absolutely no point whatsoever in name calling people just because they don't share the same opinion as you. I am aware there are some people who post on this website that really go over the top but I always a) qualify my opinions rather than just attack and b) post under my real name because I have nothing to hide.

Just a thought.

But if if's what Lorna wishes to achieve I wish her the best of luck and hope she overcomes these present difficulties.

I'm pretty sure she isn't 'body building' to make herself attractive to you, or anyone else, but she's doing it for her own personal benefit. I fail to see how the attractiveness part comes into it, in fact, what has it got to do with you in what she does.

Problem is what Lorna is doing its like a drug to her. Like an Anorexic girl she thinks looks good at 4 stone 10, Or a person that feels good when drinking alcohol . I think you understand. As you mention Jodie Marsh, she thinks she looks good and the world knows different. With Lorna unfortunately she thinks she looks good and we all know she doesn't.

KIM .. At least you understand so don't worry about the others that will try and put you down. They really don't know whats really going on ..
She looks fine to me.
