THE Dartford Bridge has re-opened after it was closed earlier today.

Shame they didnt have a method of using the two tunnels for both directions, like the good old days, nearest other route is the Blackwall tunnel

On that bit of new starts the misery of trying to get home from work! took 4 hours last week when they closed the bridge, would be nice to get some warning from those in charge as my boss is great he would let me go before it closed!

The series of bridge closures over the past couple of months should be taken as a learning point by the Govt re the 3rd crossing. As everyone agrees extreme weather is getting mroe frequent, is it logical to spend a huge sum on anotther bridge east of the existing crossing? Surely any additional thames bridge should be at a more sheltered point west of the Dartford crossing - or else it must be a tunnel. Whats more, can you imagine how many days of the winter an estuary airport would be shut by wind. Just shows what a fiasco Boris Island would be.

Good idea, extend the A130 on to Canvey, they get a third road, then continue as a tunnel to Kent.

There is no Dartford Bridge.
There is a Queen Elizabeth 11 Bridge (QE2 bridge) which is closed when there are adverse weather conditions. When this happens, the two sets of Dartford Tunnels are used. One for each direction.

There was a plan kicked about many years ago for a new route coming off the A12 heading South, crossing the Crouch at Burnham then over to Canvey and crossing there. Not only would it give another crossing, it would also short circuit the trip into Thurrock and all the way back to Dover, save miles and miles worth of diesel and of course, result in much cheaper goods, plus taking a lot of the pressure of 48 ton convoys off of the M25. Well, that's what they said, but not too sure about the last bit ever happening in the first world, that surely smacks of Communism!

I waited 3 hours in this traffic driving from Brighton, took me 5 hour in all to get from Brighton to Basildon. I eventually got to the tolls at 3.30pm and the bridge still wasn't open then, the guy said it was shut due to high winds, I said what high winds, there wasn't even a breeze, the sun was out then as well, totally ruined my day as I wanted to spend time with my mum in her care home, why on earth didn't they just lift the tolls, dont they make enough money, they could see the traffic was bedlam they could have lifted the tolls for a few hours until it cleared, they just couldn't care less about people, many people were having to take wee's on the carriage way, its times like this I wish I was a bloke as I was bursting to go.

Perhaps they were going to buy a TV and a couple of DVD's so they could stay indoors and watch those. Of course if it weren't for the greedy and feckless, goods would be a lot cheaper and we would earn better wages, so no need for grabbing them when they are cheap!

Its Good to close the bridge from time to time, makes people realise how wonderful it is, they are then more than grateful, when it opens, I'd raise the tolls, similar to the congestion charge then see who doesn't use it, PMSL
