A WOMAN was taken to hospital in a critical condition following a horror crash in Stanford-le-Hope yesterday morning.

The woman, thought to be in her twenties, was travelling along Corringham Road when her Ford 4x4 was struck by a lorry from haulage firm Foley and Miles.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said they received a call at 9.53am. He said: “After being extricated from the vehicle, ambulance crews and the critical care doctor assessed the patient and decided she should go to Queen’s Hospital by land ambulance.

“On arrival at hospital she was believed to be in a critical, but stable condition.”

A police spokesman said they attended the scene and a section of the road was closed off while they investigated the area.

Stanford residents took to Facebook following the crash to speak out over the junction where the crash took place.

John Delahunty said: “I’m surprised there are not more accidents at this junction.

“I’ve lost count of how many times cars and lorries have cut across front of me as they enter and leave Wharf Road.”

Alexandra Jones added: “I nearly got hit side-on yesterday there. Something needs to be done, it’s so dangerous, especially where the bus stop
