I saw scumbag speed off with terrified mum clinging on to bonnet
THE boyfriend of a woman who was thrown against a lamp-post as she tried to stop a thief stealing her car has spoken of his shock.
The victim was on her way to collect her child from school when she was targeted by a car-jacker outside her home in Curling Tye, Basildon, at about 2.30pm last Thursday.
She suffered injuries to her pelvis and arm and was taken to Basildon Hospital. She was released on Friday and is now recovering at home.
Her partner said: “She’s as well as can be expected considering what has happened.
“She was dragged along and smashed into a lamp-post. It’s very shocking. I’m shaken up by it.”
The woman was pulling out of her driveway when she was flagged down by a man claiming there was something in the road.
When she got out of her grey Honda CR-V estate, the man leapt behind the wheel.
She jumped on to the bonnet of the car and clung on, but was thrown against a lamppost after about 100 yards.
James Riley, 29, a gardener from East London, witnessed the incident.
He said: “I was sitting in the van on a quick break and saw a bloke in a hooded jacket and dark clothes walking up to the woman as she pulled off her drive.
“He said something to her, so she stopped.
“He kept looking behind him and then the second she got out, he sprinted towards the car.
“The car jolted as he tried to drive off and she desperately tried to stop him. She was hanging on to the car as he drove off and you could hear her screaming.
“The car disappeared out of view, but you could still hear her.
“It was really shocking to witness and will stay with me.
“I hope they catch the scumbag as this woman was completely innocent and did nothing to deserve this.
“Somebody told me later she was only popping out to pick up her little boy from school.”
The driver sped off and neither he nor the car have been traced.
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
