A MAN was attacked in a quiet country lane after a random late night attack in Billericay.

A member of the public discovered a man with serious head and facial injuries at the junction of Southend Road and Coxes Farm Road at just after 12.30am on Sunday.

It is believed the man was walking along the road when a silver Ford Fiesta pulled up and two men got out of the car and knocked him to the floor.

The attackers then got back in to the car and drove off.

Police believe the assault was unprovoked.

The 32-year-old victim, who is from Billericay, was taken to Basildon Hospital for treatment.

He is now recovering at home.

The suspects were white men aged in their mid to late 20s.

One was over 6ft, of lean build, with cropped dark hair.

The other is around 5ft 10ins tall and is of stocky build with brown shaved hair.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact detective constable Katie Bush at Basildon CID on Essex Police 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

If he had done something wrong to instigate the attack he is hardly going to admit it to the police - people love playing the innocent victim when reporting crimes.

It could have been a case of mistaken identity.
