A PARISH council meeting descended into chaos as police were called when hundreds of people swarmed on a centre.

Billericay Town Council had to cancel its full council meeting earlier tonight after 280 people flocked to Billericay Day Centre.

They swarmed the Chantry Way building in protest of Basildon Council's proposals to build 2,300 homes on the town's green belt.

But as the building only has capacity for 125 people, and 110 residents waiting outside also wanted to hear the meeting, chairman John Buchanan felt he had no option but to cancel the meeting and call the police to clear the building.
