A ROAD was closed after a bus hit a boy on Canvey.

Emergency services rushed to Link Road following the incident which happened shortly after 4pm on Wednesday.

Paramedics assessed the ten-year-old boy's injuries before he was flown to the Royal London Hospital by the Essex air ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. 

The road was closed in both directions between Somnes Avenue and Long Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the accident.

A spokesman from Essex Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision between a 10-year-old boy and a bus which occurred on Link Road at Canvey Island.

"Officers were notified by the ambulance service about the incident at 4.10pm on Wednesday March 12.

"The road was closed whilst paramedics treated the injured boy and police carried out initial investigations at the scene.

"The boy was subsequently taken by air ambulance to the Royal London hospital for treatment to head injuries which are believed to be serious but not life threatening. The road was re-opened at 6.50pm"
