Clive Simpson, former head of planning at Basildon Council, had his post axed but his company gets two year contract worth up to £90k

Basildon Recorder: I've retired from the council... but I'm still cashing in I've retired from the council... but I'm still cashing in

A COUNCIL boss retired from his full-time job...and then came back to work with possible earnings of £45,000 a year for two days a week.

Clive Simpson left his role as head of planning at Basildon Council because his post was being axed.

However, the council then awarded a two-year contract of up to £90,000 to his firm, Clive Simpson Planning, for planning advice for two days a week.

Mr Simpson was paid a salary of £55,000 in 2013/14, but it is understood he took early retirement.

Nigel Smith, leader of the opposition Labour Party, said: “The suspicion is that a deal has been done and residents and councillors will be righly suspicious.

“It all sounds very unsatisfactory to me and when you think about something as crucial as planning is to councils, you have to ask why isn’t this expertise all in-house by someone employed by the council?”

The council insists it would have been detrimental if a contract had not been awarded straight away. The bulk of the firm’s work will providing support for the negotiation and preparation of applications and advising on the development of regeneration schemes.

It could also include help with the local housing plan, but the council will pay the firmon how much work it gives it.

David Harrison, Ukip candidate for Wickford Park, claimed the council waived its own tendering process by awarding the contract because it was below £173,000. Mr Harrison added: “The big issue is that once again Basildon Council has ignored its own tendering procedures to give Mr Simpson this contract.”

A council spokesman said: “It’s worth mentioning that £90,000 is the maximum contract value and Mr Simpson’s payments will be determined solely by the amount of work Basildon Council gives him and based upon his submitted timesheets.

“The exact content and balancing of the workload will be determined between the council and contractor, but the bulk of it involves providing support for the negotiation and preparation of applications and advising on the development of regeneration schemes.”

A UKIP Prime Minister - God help us!

Source - The Guaridan:

The leader of the UK Independence party (Ukip), which wants to lead Britain out of the EU, has taken £2m of taxpayers' money in expenses and allowances as a member of the European Parliament, on top of his £64,000 a year salary.

Nigel Farage, who is calling on voters to punish "greedy Labour, Conservative and Lib Dem MPs" at the European elections boasted of his personal expenses haul at a meeting with foreign journalists in London last week.

The admission threatens to flatten a bounce in the polls for Ukip that has seen the party climb to around 17% over the last fortnight as angry voters flock to smaller parties regarded as untainted by the Westminster expenses scandal.

During a debate about Europe at the Foreign Press Association - which was discreetly taped by the hosts - Farage was asked by former Europe minister Denis MacShane what he had received in non-salary expenses and allowances since becoming an MEP in 1999.

"It is a vast sum," Farage said. "I don't know what the total amount is but - oh lor - it must be pushing £2 million." Taken aback, MacShane then joked: "Is it too late to become an MEP?"

Farage insisted that he had not "pocketed" the money but had used the "very large sum of European taxpayers' money" to help promote Ukip's message that the UK should get out of the EU.

When asked later by the Observer to justify how he could claim so much while running a campaign attacking Westminster MPs for their extravagance, Farage was unapologetic, saying that, while MEPs were "very expensive", he was entirely happy that the money had been used for the best of causes."

UKIP update from Skynews:

By Jon Craig, Chief Political Correspondent

A student described by Nigel Farage as "the future face of UKIP" and labelled its "ethnic minority poster girl" has quit the party, accusing it of racism.

How is it none of my business ? let me tell you how it is my business.
I'm a local taxpayer and have an interest in how my taxes are spent. I guess you don't pay anything and are only interested in receiving your next benefit payments

Your party lost its government of this country when people got fed up to the teeth with "The party of sleaze!"

Here you are umpteen years later, just as sleaze ridden bent as a £9 Euro note, and between you and your pocket paper the Sun have taken the people for the biggest con ride they have ever known.

The last lying cheating hoodwink this big was the South Sea bubble which financed the war against France. All because you didn't want what happened to their Charletons happening to you. Well guess what, smarty pants. More and more people are waking up to your con-tricks and soon, even your lying Sun won't be able to cover you!
