WHEN Helen Scott found herself standing blindfolded in the middle of a Basildon car park, the last thing she expected was a proposal of marriage.

But that’s just what she got – complete with jugglers, dancers and an elaborate choreographed parade.

Stacey Turner, 25, decided to make her proposal to girlfriend Helen, 24, as memorable as she could. She succeeded – but also earned the pair online fame.

A video of her proposal – performed and filmed in Blake Avenue, Basildon – has been posted on the website of a new ITV programme called Let Me Entertain You.

In the clip, a blindfolded Helen is led by her mum, Jackie, to sit in the open boot of an estate car. Once her blindfold is off, jugglers and dancers appear, while the car slowly reverses across the car park to the strains of the Bruno Mars song, Marry Me.

The spectacle continues for two minutes until the view sees Stacey walking through the middle of the parade, carrying a pink heartwith the words, “Marry Me”.

She then goes down on one knee and proposed.

Singer and dancer Helen, who lives with Stacey in Churchill Avenue, Basildon, said: “It was all a surprise to me. I had no idea. I didn’t know what was going on. I thought my mum was trying to get me to sit on a fairground ride. I didn’t want to sit down.

“I thought I was just going to be having a stroll through Gloucester Park, and then it all started.

“It was totally out of character for her, a real surprise. Stacey is really shy and I’m a complete extrovert. It obviously shows how much she loves me.”

After the proposal, Stacey admitted: “I’ve never been so stressed in my life.

“It was so hard trying to get everyone together. I normally tell Helen everything, so I was so stressed I couldn’t tell her.

“But she accepted. That was the main thing and everyone seems to think it’s really good.”

Among those who helped her stage the stunt were dance teacher Helen’s students from Pure Dance, in Benfleet.

Despite the elaborate proposal, the couple insist they have no plans to marry soon. Stacey said they wanted to take a little longer planning the wedding itself and would be happy to wait until 2016.
