COMMUTERS travelling into London this morning faced severe delays after a person was struck by a train at Pitsea.
The incident was reported by the C2C rail service at about 8.05am.
As a result, lines were blocked between Pitsea and Basildon.
Trains from Shoeburyness to London Fenchurch Street were diverted via Tilbury.
C2C tickets are also being accepted on Greater Anglia services from Southend Victoria.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the line close to Pitsea station in Basildon, Essex after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“Officers from BTP and Essex Police attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 8.05am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Services were returned to normal just after 10.30am.
