A MAN filled up a jerrycan with £85 of fuel and then left without paying.

The incident happened at the Tesco filling station at Hazelmere in Pitsea at about 9pm on Tuesday, May 13.

The suspect arrived at the petrol station in a dark grey Vauxhall people carrier.

It was later found to be using a number plate stolen from a blue Nissan car.

Essex Police have released this CCTV image this week. They would like to speak to the man shown, in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle should contact the investigating officer Pc Paula Hopkins at the Basildon Retail Crime Unit on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Reckon he filled his tank up out of camera view and filled his can up as well, and whats more the shop attendants must of been sleeping as most stations won't let you operate the pumps with your car doors open.
