SUPERMARKET bosses have teamed up with wildlife volunteers to make improvements at a nature reserve.

Tesco and contractors RG Carters have helped design and build new visitor attractions and facilities at Langdon Hills Nature Reserve, run by Essex Wildlife Trust, which will be officially unveiled this weekend.

The launch event, taking place on Sunday, will include giant games for youngsters, a barbecue and fun-filled activities such as tree planting and scrub clearing.

The 470 acre site, which is home to an array of wildlife, backs on to the Tesco superstore off Mandeville Way, Langdon Hills.

Staff at the branch have teamed up with colleagues at the Tesco Extra store at the Mayflower Retail Park, off the A127, to help out at the nature reserve.

Manager Darren Inglis said: "We can’t wait to show local people what we’ve got planned. We really think that between us we can make a real difference to the nature reserve and make it an even better place for visitors and wildlife.”

The official unveiling, which is open to members of the public, will take place between 1pm and 4pm.

The following day, the Mayflower store will be re-launched after an extensive refurbishment programme.
