Police have reissued an appeal for witnesses to a robbery in which a woman in labour and her partner were assaulted.

Five men armed with crowbars forced their way into a house in Beambridge, Basildon, at about 9pm on Monday, March 2.

The woman, who was in labour, was taken by ambulance to hospital, where she later gave birth.

She remains in hospital undergoing treatment for a head injury.

Her partner suffered minor injuries in the robbery.

Cash and an Apple iPad were stolen.

One of the suspects was described as being of mixed race, aged 25 to 30 years old and between 5ft 7ins tall and 5ft 9ins tall.

He was of medium build and had large brown eyes.

A second suspect was described as a white man, aged in his late teens to 25 years old, with blue eyes, very pale skin, a small nose and blond eyebrows.

Temporary Dc Clive Hammond said: "This was a shocking attack and we are determined to find the people responsible.

"Officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries and we would urge anyone with information who has not contacted us to get in touch."
