A 13-YEAR-OLD boy has been stabbed in the stomach waiting for a school bus.

The random knife attack happened as the teenager stood with friends at a bus stop in Glasgow's East End, just after 8am.

A passer-by banged into the boy, who didn't realise he'd been stabbed until several seconds later when he saw blood coming from his stomach. He was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by ambulance, and detained overnight.

The knifeman is in his late teens and is not thought to be known to the victim. He's still being hunted today.

Detective Constable Jim Diamond from Shettleston CID said: "The boy felt someone bang into him but didn't think anything of it.

"Then he looked down to grab his phone from his pocket and saw the blood.

"By this point the man was about 30 feet away. He looked back towards the victim, then started running."

The bus arrived just moments after yesterday morning's attack.

The boy, who has not been named, was helped on to the vehicle by friends, and one of them called for an ambulance. When the bus reached Eastbank Academy, the ambulance took the stabbed boy to hospital.

DC Diamond appealed for witnesses to the attack, which took place on the east side of Duke Street, near Parkhead Hospital.

He said: "As far as we know, this was an unprovoked attack on a young boy.

"His condition did not appear to be serious, but it's always difficult to tell with these kind of injuries and he was kept in overnight as a precaution.

"It's likely there were people around at the time who may have seen the attacker, and we would ask them to get in touch."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed the boy was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with a "small stab wound to the right abdomen".

The suspect is described as between 5ft 8in and 6ft, of heavy build. He was wearing a dark hooded top with McKenzie written on the back, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.
