DAVID SAVAGE has an added incentive to land a knock-out blow when he attempts to win the vacant British Masters featherweight title at the St Andrew's Club on Monday night ... so that he can put his girlfriend out of her misery.

The highly-rated young fighter will take centre stage when he attempts to maintain his 100% record since turning pro by clocking up his eighth win, this time against experienced English scrapper Sid Razak.

Savage, who is trained by his father David Snr, would love to complete the job as quickly as possible, with his girlfriend Nikki unable to cheer him on and anxiously waiting outside in the hotel lobby.

"Nikki comes to all of my fights," said Savage. "The only one she has missed was another at the St Andrew's Club because it's a male-only event.

"She is still going to come along but she'll have to wait outside. I'm pretty sure she'll be pacing the floor. I think she would rather be with me before the fight and, obviously, nothing would make me happier than to emerge with the belt."

Savage - undefeated in seven fights since turning pro - is expecting a tough challenge but says he has been working overtime to make sure he is in peak condition.

"I'd like to achieve a knock-out on Monday," said Savage as he took time out from training at Drumchapel's ARGO centre. "But I'm prepared to go the distance as well if required. This is my first title fight so there is the potential for it to go 10 rounds."
