CRUCIAL talks are to be held to try to avoid a strike threat by around 3000 staff over a new council pay deal.
East Renfrewshire Council has issued Unison, GMB and the TGWU a 90-day notice to accept its £2.8million package, or staff will be dismissed and "re-engaged" on new contracts.
Union chiefs and council leaders will meet on Tuesday to try to thrash out a solution for classroom assistants, clerical staff, cleaners and those in catering services.
Both sides say they are keen to find a negotiated settlement to the dispute.
