THE Scottish Rocks stand between Newcastle Eagles and a second straight BBL title when the teams meet at the Newcastle Arena tonight.

Success against the Scottish team, or defeat for Everton Tigers at MK Lions, will leave Eagles as the first side since London Leopards in 1998 to complete back-to-back championship seasons.

And it must be odds on that Eagles will land the title. The Rocks lost for the eighth game in a row when beaten 88-75 by Leicester Riders, a result that means their chances of reaching the play-offs are unlikely.

Rocks badly need a victory as their poor run has resulted in them dropping to sixth in the table. The Rocks player-coach Sterling Davis said: "It's a big game for them and we should use that as motivation. We want to be the team who ends their winning streak and makes them wait to win the league.

CURLING: David Murdoch brought his Scotland team right back into medal contention at the Ford World Men's Curling Championship in Canada with a resounding 10-3 win over Denmark.

This latest victory confirms the Scots in second place on the rankings, alongside Norway but behind unbeaten Canada, with just one round-robin game to go.

The Scots are guaranteed at least a place in the tie-breaker line-up.

SPEEDWAY: The on-form A-Plant Tigers are at home to Newcastle Diamonds in the Premier Trophy on Sunday.

A recent home defeat by Sheffield means Diamonds are outsiders to win a place in the semi-finals. But an away win is possible because the English team have a number of riders who have excellent records on the Glasgow track.

Despite that, Co-Promoter Stewart Dickson is hopeful. He said: "Their last home defeat makes them more dangerous."
