A RECRUITMENT consultant is taking on the London Marathon in memory of her beloved grandmother Amy McDonald, 23, was inspired to run the gruelling 26 mile route after her grandmother lost her long battle with breast cancer.

She wants to raise cash and awareness for charity Walk the Walk.

Miss McDonald, of Mendip Crescent, Westcliff, said she was left devastated when her grandmother's cancer returned in early 2015- 15 years after she was given the all clear.

She said: “Sadly, after hearing my nan's cancer had returned I decided I would like to run the London Marathon to raise awareness and money for the cancer charities that helped my nan over the years.

“Unfortunately my nan passed away on the November 27, 2015, which was a big shock to us all. With these horrific circumstances, it gave me more inspiration to run and raise as much money as possible to help future cancer patients, and hopefully help find more cures and save lives.

Miss McDonald has already smashed her target of £2,250.

She organised a boxing match and an charity meal, which helped raise £3,400.

Miss McDonald is also organising a charity ball at La Quinta, in Benfleet Road, Hadleigh, on Saturday, March 12.
