A POORLY eight-year-old will fly to America for pioneering brain cancer treatment after £4,000 was raised in a week.

Generous fundraisers dug deep to collect cash for Indiana Corr-Day, from Canvey, who is preparing for a three month trip to the States.

An online appeal set up by her mum, Jade Day, raised £1,000 in its first 24 hours.

Doctors diagnosed Indiana with cancer in December, after discovering an astrocytoma glioma tumour in her brainstem.

She underwent surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital earlier this year to remove most of the tumour, but the next stage of her treatment involves pioneering proton beam therapy.

This must be carried out at the ProCure Proton Therapy Center, in Oklahoma. The NHS are funding the treatment but the family needed to cover living costs while in the US.

Miss Day, 29, a shop assistant, said the support from the public means Indiana’s ten-year-old sister, Poppy, and five-year-old brother, Dexter, will also be travel to America for the early stages of her treatment.

She said: “We are unbelievably grateful for the support we’ve received “The kindness of people who donated has been remarkable.

“We’ve been givenaprovisional appointment in Oklahoma on Thursday, February 18, and we’ve just managed to get our visas sorted.

“The money raised means that that Poppy and Dexter can be there for Indiana during her preliminary checks.

“It’salong time for them to be apart, so I am over the moon they’ll have time together.

“The appeal will help us cover general costs while we are out there too, so there has been a lot riding on it.”

Indiana’s diagnoses came after she struggled to grip a pen properly.

The family was offered the option of radiotherapy, but were told it could damage her quality of life in the future as it is very intensive.

Miss Day added: “We were advised by the Great Ormond Street specialists that the treatment in Oklahoma is better because it pinpoints only the cells that need treating. In the operation they removed a large chunk of the tumour, but there was some they couldn’t reach with surgery.

“They are now confident they will be able to remove most, if not all that is left.”

Miss Day has organised a fundraiser at Partyman World, in Repton Close, Basildon, on Wednesday to cover any unforeseen costs while her daughter’s treatment is under way.

It will taking place from 7pm until 9pm, and feature a range of stalls and activities.

Adults pay £5, and admission for children is free.
