GOLF is normally considered a sedate sport, but players at one club have reported ghouls on the greens and frights on the fairways near their haunted clubhouse.

The team behind popular paranormal investigation show Most Haunted travelled to Rochford Hall, rumoured to be the place where Henry VIII met Anne Boleyn, to explore reports of spooky goings on.

If you're scared of things that go bump in the night it might be best to stay away.

Visitors have long claimed to have connected with the spirit world in the 12th century building, and staff claim to have seen furniture move without being touched.

Wayne Mahan, house manager at Rochford Hundred Golf Club, admits he used to be sceptical about paranormal activity until he started working in the former Boleyn family home.

He said: “It is definitely haunted. I have seen things. Buckets that have moved themselves, chairs that have moved themselves, apparitions that have moved through walls and walls that shook.

“We were quite excited to have Most Haunted here and we hope that they wish to come back and do a follow up. I’m happy that they choose us.

“During the investigation quite a few people got upset and anxious, which is quite normal, it happens quite a lot here if you are not mentally strong. Some people couldn’t go through with it, especially on the third floor, the most active floor."

He said the club believes that one of the spirits may be Mary, Anne Boleyn’s sister.

Rachel Darby, manager of Gcuk South East Paranormal Investigations, who has spent years exploring ghosts and spirits at the golf club and countey house, organised the event.

She said it was an honour to work with the Most Haunted team, whose visits to spooky site across the county are usually screened on channel Really.

Mrs Darby, 36, said: “It's a great Honour and privilege to work with them. Over the years we have been there to collaborate evidence and experienced things there. We have two mediums on our team.

“We have picked up names and lots of things here. It’s our paranormal home."

Mrs Darby, of Ashingdon Road, Rochford, added: “Most Haunted came through us and we booked them to come. It was a fantastic night.

"We had a sceptic with us who is no longer a sceptic. We captured video of a shadow running across one of the rooms.

"When with Most Haunted we were having a bit of a laugh with the spirit, having communication through the Oculus machine, which is used to communicate words with spirits. The spirit said ‘It’s a new moon’, the words came out of the machine and the spirit pointed to the new moon with the rod.”

Her paranormal investigations team are carrying out an ongoing investigation at the club due to the amount of reported sightings and paranormal experiences at Rochford Hall.

She added:“We have had light anomalies. One of our team members experienced our friend’s spirit at Rochford, he has been scratched and pushed down the stairs. It’s a crazy but lovely place.

“I have had communication with a spirit. When you have the equipment it proves to the sceptic that something is happening. There is no way of using the equipment myself."
