SCHOOLCHILDREN, residents and councillors came together to celebrate the unveiling of a new sign welcoming visitors to their village.

Runwell Parish Council decided to organise the replacement of its village sign, in Church End Lane, after the previous version fell into disrepair.

The unveiling ceremony for the new sign was officiated by Father Jo Delfgou, from neighbouring St Mary's Church.

Villagers and councillors were also in attendance to see the new sign revealed.

Parish councillor Yvonne Waterhouse said: "To celebrate the event, staff and children from Runwell Primary School and Runwell Pre-School provided a wonderful singing accompaniment.

"They also assisted Father Jo with the unveiling and blessing ceremony.

"The old sign had to be replaced as it became weather worn and councillors Linda Payne and Jim Sloane worked extremely hard to ensure a good replacement."
