A MUM is taking part in a charity sky dive - despite being so scared of heights she struggles to use escalators.

Anna Cole, 40, will be joined by her 17-year-old daughter Georgia, to take on the feat in aid of Alzheimer’s UK.

Some of the money will also go towards a projector at The Belfry Care Home, in Ramsden Heath, where Mrs Cole works.

Mrs Cole’s dad, Len Stockley, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s three years ago when he was 66.

He is now cared for full time at a nursing home in Norfolk, where he moved to.

Mrs Cole said: “He used to play with the West Ham reserve team and has played with Frank Lampard Senior.

“It has been really sad to see the difference in him.

“The diagnosis really devastated the family.

“He can’t walk and he struggles to talk to me properly - the words just aren’t there any more.

“However, he can still sing all the words to a song.”

For the last couple of years Mrs Cole and her daughter, who live in Ramsden Heath, have been raising money for Alzheimer’s UK, which is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity.

Alzheimer’s causes problems such as memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.

There are more than 520,000 people in the UK with Alzheimer’s disease.

They have gone on a memory walk, organised by the charity, twice, and have raised about £1,500 between them so far.

This time, Georgina wanted to try something a bit different to raise money, and chose a sky dive.

“I absolutely hate heights,” Mrs Cole said.

“I am a nightmare going down escalators.

“But it is for my dad and for the residents at the care home.

“I started working there two years ago.

“Obviously there are some people there who have dementia and I really wanted to do something for them.

“The projector would enable them to show people’s photos, videos and other memories on.

“Georgina is really looking forward to it and my son, 14-year-old Billie, is upset he can’t join us but he is too young.”

They are hoping to raise £1,000 and have so far hit half of their target.

It will take place in August.
