A MAN accused of murdering a Pitsea dad will face a crown court trial.

Joram Bakumanya, 22, unemployed, of no fixed address, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court this morning charged with stabbing Daniel Mitchell-Monroe to death in the street.

He appeared in the courtroom wearing a dark jumper and jogging bottoms and spoke only to confirm his name.

No pleas were entered.

During the seven-minute hearing, barristers for the prosecution and defence fixed a next plea and trial preparation hearing for August 22.

A provisional trial date was set for December 12.

Bakumanya was remanded in custody until then.

Daniel Mitchell-Monroe's friends and family packed out the courtroom after they had already attended the first hearing at Basildon Magistrates Court a day earlier.

Despite the circumstances, they remained calm throughout the hearing.
