A property development company is giving out fluorescent, reflective bag tags to help keep children visible over the winter months.

Persimmon Homes Essex is urging parents to pick up the free tags, which are fluorescent in day-light and reflective at night-time, to keep children visible at this time of the year.

The company was inspired to distribute the safety tags after learning from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents that road casualty rates increase after the clocks are moved at the end of October, with the arrival of darker evenings and worsening weather conditions.

Neil Sykes, sales director for Persimmon Homes Essex, said: "On gloomy winter days, it's crucial children are kitted out in bright or reflective clothing and our fluorescent bag tags, which are picked up by car headlights and show up in dull or misty weather, will help them stay safe when using the road this year."

Tags are available from marketing suites in Colchester at Bloomsbury Mews, Heathlands, and Riverside Nursery.
