Hockley Primary School unveil modular classrooms after Raac

Hockley Primary School, in Chevening Gardens, welcomed parents to the school this week for a tour of the new modular built classrooms.

The school, run by the Academies Enterprise Trust, was closed by the Department of Education for five months following the discovery of Raac last September.

Pupils were able to return in December after temporary measures were put in place whilst the school waited for new modular classrooms.

David Jenkins, headteacher at Hockley Primary School, said: “I am so proud of our school and our new modular building and facilities, which illustrate just how committed we are to providing the children of Hockley with an ambitious education and personal development.

“We had so many positive comments about our new look classrooms and the children have settled in brilliantly.”

Prospective parents and children were given the opportunity to see the new facilities, proudly shown to them by current pupils, as they took a tour of the school.

Each classroom has brand new furniture and educational resources, including interactive whiteboards, and the music rooms are fitted with the latest technology for aspiring musicians.

Younger children who are starting school for the very first time were able to see the fun learning equipment in the playground.

Older children have been able to decorate their brand-new classrooms and show parents and carers their workbooks and projects.

The school say parents who visited the school were delighted with the new building and the chance for their children to learn in such a vibrant space.

At this stage, it is unknown how long repairs and works on the current areas impacted by Raac will take and when they will begin.
