ROAD safety bosses are warning drivers and bikers to stay safe this summer.

The Essex Casualty Reduction Board – made up of Essex County Council, police and the fire brigade – are warning drivers to take extra time for journeys so they don’t take risks to get out of congestion and end up crashing.

They have also advised motorists not to drink and drive, keep to speed limits, wear seat belts and ensure they have the right child seat for children.

Norman Hume, chairman of the board, said: “I ask drivers to check their vehicles if they are going away, take breaks when they are tired and don’t overload their cars to levels where their visibility of the road around them is impaired.

“We ask motorists to look out for the extra motorcycles that are on our roads during the nice weather, especially when pulling out of junctions.

“I ask motorcyclists to ride safely and not be tempted to skimp on your kit because it is warm “Enjoy your riding but make sure you get to go home at the end of the day.”
