EXTRA recycling sacks will be provided for Rochford households over Christmas.

During the week starting Monday, December 29, residents will be allowed to leave out four clear sacks of recyclables for collection alongside the grey recyclables bin they normally use.

The additional sacks are to allow for extra recyclable waste which is likely to be generated over the festive period.

This arrangement only applies for that week. Any extra sacks put out before or after this period will not be collected. It also only applies to households with three bins, not to homes which are exempt, or who use communal bins for recycling.

Cathy Cook, recycling communications officer, said: “We know over Christmas households are likely to accumulate more recyclables, so the council has made provision for this.

”However, we can only take as many as four additional sacks per household, along with the normal recyclables collection.”

Households which still have the blue recyclables box from the previous collection scheme which ended in the summer can also leave recyclables in this for collection over the festive period.

Extra free sacks are available from council offices, libraries and other public facilities around the district.
