TRAVELLERS have begun a campaign to scupper Basildon.gov.uk" target="_blank">Basildon Council’s plan to evict them.
Campaigners for the Dale Farm site, at Crays Hill, hope writing to firms, which hire bulldozers and heavy machinery, urging them not to do business with bailiff companies for traveller site evictions, will limit the amount of equipment available for the mass clearance.
They claim 2007 protests outside Diggerland, in Kent, led to HE Services, which owns the machine-based theme park, withdrawing its services to bailiffs Constant & Co.
The firm has previously carried out three evictions at the Hovefields site, Wickford, for Basildon Council.
Campaigner Grattan Puxon said: “Constant & Co has since had to use other contractors.
“We are writing to these and other hire firms urging them not to allow their vehicles to be used at Dale Farm because of the risks posed to children and vulnerable people.”
