A SCHOOLBOY is accused of threatening a woman with a meat cleaver during a house burglary.
The boy, 15, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and his accomplice Alex Jones, 18, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court to face charges of aggravated burglary.
The pair, both from Basildon, did not enter pleas.
The charges relate to an incident in Swanstead Road, Vange, which happened at about 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 3. The woman was not seriously injured in the alleged robbery in which two laptops plus a pink LG phone, with a combined value of £550, were stolen.
The two teenagers were arrested shortly after.
At court, on Friday, the 15-year-old boy was granted bail.
His conditions included a home curfew between 7pm and 7am everyday, and he is not allowed to go to the Swansted area of Vange at any time.
He will also have to meet with youth offending officers for 25 hours a week.
Addressing the boy, chairman of the bench Colin Dixey said: “Taking into account your age we are going to grant you bail.”
However, co-defendant Jones of Ravenscourt Drive, Vange, was refused bail and remanded in custody.
The pair will appear in Basildon Crown Court on February 5, 2010.
