Limit on Basildon taxis?

Basildon Council is considering calls for a limit on the number of Hackney Carriage taxis in the district from the Basildon Taxi and Private Hire Forum.

The council’s licensing committee will discuss next Wednesday requests from parts of the local taxi trade who want a return to limits on the numbers of vehicles operating in the district. A cap was scrapped in 2005.

Some cabbies believe it has led to a surplus of drivers in the district, which has affected their trade and they want an independent survey into the issue.

Or make the knowledge test for new applicants a little more demanding.

or even have the current drivers re-do the knowledge and other related tests, that may cut the numbers down

There are far too many taxi's in far too many towns as it is. ANY taxi-driver who is too lazy to get out of his/her cab and knock on the door of any customer of a house, etc., SHOULD be made to surrender their license for sounding their horn while stationary, as it is against the law to do so, and so as so-called law abiding (Huh!) citizens most claim to be, they should already know of this law.

Perhaps you would like them to escort you to the car, open the door for you and serve you scones and tea?
