ALMOST 28 years after they first ventured out on to the stages of south Essex, veteran rhythm’n’blues band Automatic Slim are back.

Tim Aves and two of the band’s other four members – guitarist Ian Cundy and bassman Howard J Bills – have been along for the ride ever since the band’s first live show.

That was at the old Treble Chance pub in Basildon, on the site of the present Quays pub, in Pipps Hill Road South, on November 3, 1982. Current drummer Don Moore, the band’s fourth, has been in the line-up since the early Nineties.

Automatic Slim officially came off the road in 1999, after 17 years and 3,000-odd gigs across the UK and Europe, but in recent years, have come back together for a handful of reunion shows each year.

The latest is on Saturday afternoon at Blues at the Farm, Billericay.

Automatic Slim take the stage at the Barleylands Club, in Barleylands Road, at 2pm.

Admission is £5 for members and £5.50 for non-members. For details, go to bluesatthefarm.co.uk
