My father was an engine driver based at Shoebury from 1931 to 1980. Sadly, he is no longer around to ask this question: Why do we hear the constant sounding of horns from the sidings at Shoebury?

This honking goes on from early evening and right through the night.

It seems they use some sort of signalling system while repositioning trains.

Have they never heard of telephones or radios?

I feel sorry for residents who live nearer the sidings, who must be fed up with this unnecessary noise.
