BASILDON Sporting Village saw over 10,000 additional visits during the London Olympics.

Over 101,000 people visited the popular sports destination during August compared to 90,000 in the same month last year.

Since opening the Sporting Village has seen over 1500 more young people participating in the Learn to Swim programme and increased attendance at the South Essex Gymnastics club by 3000 per month.

Biggest white elephant ever.

The interest payments alone will cripple Basildon's ratepayers.

Instead of spending £38m on this, money should be spent on housing, and other more urgent social requirements.

Sadly Southend could not even be bothered to make their new swimming pool Olympic size and therefore apart from the diving was not as popular.
