A WOMAN, who was hit by a car, was left lying in the in the pouring rain for an hour waiting for paramedics, despite being just yards from the ambulance station.
The woman's partner, Matthew Hawkins, said despite being less than 100 metres from the ambulance station on Great Oaks, Basildon, 33-year-old Julene’ Pienaar lay injured and shivering waiting to be taken to Basildon Hospital.
As Miss Pienarr crossed Great Oaks on Sunday September 23 she was struck by a vehicle, flying on to its bonnet before landing on the ground.
Passers-by and motorists rushed to help and immediately dialled 999, following the crash which happened just before 2pm.
A paramedic in a rapid response car arrived within 15-minutes.
But, because the paramedic was travelling in a car they had no spinal board or neck brace, leaving members of the public forced to help by holding a shivering Miss Pienaar’s neck.
Her partner claimed no ambulance arrived for an hour.
However the East of England Ambulance Service maintain the ambulance arrived at the scene within 40 minutes, arriving at 2.40pm after the initial 2pm call.
