First published in News by

A Basildon grandfather has become one of the world’s oldest to qualify as a scuba diver.
Brian Wall took the plunge and has earned his British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) Ocean Diver certificate at the grand age of 74.
It means he is currently BSAC’s oldest member to qualify and is certainly the oldest member of Basildon Sub-Aqua Club, the BSAC branch club which has helped him achieve his goal.

Congratulations to Mr. Wall but I find the headline a little strange. The achievement is qualifying at the age of 74, not qualifying when a grandfather- A grandfather could reasonably be no older than 40 especially in Basildon and/or amongst the traveller community where childbirth is often at a young age.

Well done to him. I'm 43 this year and it's something I've always wanted to do.
