THERE’S no escaping it, Santa Claus is coming to town in just 68 days and Basildon is starting to gear up for Christmas.

The festive season is rapidly approaching and plans are underway for the town’s big switch on of its Christmas lights on Saturday, November 24.

Entertainment and events will start in the town centre from 3pm and the illuminations will be turned on at 6pm.

There will be something for everyone on the day with plenty of fun for all the family, including rides, market stalls, a variety of live music and dance, and a fireworks display.

Councillor Terri Sargent, Basildon Council’s cabinet member for community services, said: “Following the move into the town centre last year, we are again holding the event in the town square and will have a range of entertainment for families to enjoy.

“The big switch on really symbolises the start of the Christmas in the town, and what we hope will be a very busy time for the shops and businesses based here.”
