Crash at Dunton flyover causes rush hour misery for motorists

Stolen Mercedes ploughed into oncoming traffic Stolen Mercedes ploughed into oncoming traffic

A STOLEN car being chased by police sped out of control into oncoming traffic.

The driver ran off after the three-car smash at the Dunton flyover today, Thursday, but was caught by officers soon after and arrested on suspicion of burglary, unlawful taking of a car, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

The drama unfolded just before 3pm when a Mercedes SLK 200 was stolen in Hockley.

An Essex Police spokesman said police were called and tried to stop the car, but the driver, a 19-year-old man from Southend, did not stop for officers.

As the driver raced along the Southend-bound A127 and up the slip road at Dunton, he drove into oncoming traffic on the roundabout before making a run for it.

One woman, who was in her car with a young child, was taken to Basildon Hospital suffering from shock. No one else was hurt.

Police useless why an accident off the A127 should hold up the road

Oh yeah get straight to the important bit of the story...you two...apparently? Never mind someone with a CHILD in the car was minding their own business before some pr1ck drives head on in to them. I hope they're both ok, and that this waste of space has the book thrown at him.

You close the slip road london bound, where does all the traffic that uses it go? Onto the next. But there's hesitation, drivers who are unsure of the best route, so everyone slows.

At the next slip road, which also feeds onto a roundabout, the Halfway House turn off - busy at the best of times feeding Brentwood. Now all traffic from Laindon - as it's London bound and traffic will already have passed the Fortune of War, will use that, travel down the A128 and find it's way onto Dunton Road. Twice the level of traffic on that one slip - causing queues on the A127

Meanwhile of course, traffic going Southend bound, already most likely held up due to queues on the Roundabout at the Halfway House, will also endure a closed slip road (they'll have had to close all of them). Hesitant drivers will not know where to go, and slow down. Those in the know will come off at the Fortune, and go over the bridge to the Laindon High Road. Others will drive on to the Billericay turn off, doubling the amount of traffic on that...

Closing the slip road isn't simply a solution...

Anyway, hopefully the people involved (except the scrote who stole the car) are ok, and suffer no physical or mental injuries after this.

Stolen from Hockley, racing along the Southend bound lane of the A127 up the sliproad at Dunton, correct me if I am wrong, but, should that not be London bound? (Incidently I was travelling Southend bound on the A127 from Dunton from 3:00pm yesterday and couldnt fail to notice the hich incidence of police vehicles, even some blocking the road out of Basildon at the old 'Yardleys' roundabout).

Wait to read about the scrote who stole the car and his'underprivilged' upbringing etc as the magistrate decides to give him one more chance (on top of the hundreds he's had already)

Give him 10 years hard labour in Changi - that might focus his attention.

Anyone noticed the correlation between the rise in crime and rates of punishment declining the past 40 years??

I am a dangerous driver myself, and I admit to everyone I am, but I dont condone this type of behaviour! Ive been blued and two'd by traffic police, and I didnt attempt to run from them, as I was not in a stolen car. My most recent one I had the book thrown at me, 3 shiny points on my license, but the other 3 or 4 they have let me off!

I would love to be in a police pursuit though, my driving would be so dangerous, that it would be called off. Plus im such a skillfull driver, that I wouldnt crash. Mr 19 year old couldnt handle the speed of a Mercedes it appears. Im talented behind the wheel. Used to win go karting competitions at like 12 years old. I wish my talent was recognised and I was a Formula one driver.

Did you not realise what this story was about?
A young girl with her child was injured and some idiot will probally get off lightly!! And all you can moan about is where the traffic may have been comming from.. I hope your loved one is never in this situation and you then read some anal comment like that!!!
