Antonio’s England call-up to cook for footballers
A SOUTH Essex chef is winging his way to Estonia to serve up some tasty dishes for England’s best young footballers.
Antonio Viscariello, 46, who owns La Toscana, off the High Street in Billericay, got a last-minute call asking if he could spare his skills for two weeks to cook up some delights for the under 19 team as they set out for the European Football Champion-ships taking place in the Baltic country.
Mr Viscarello, who is Italian but was born in the UK, said: “I am friend’s with Tim De’ath who takes care of the food for the first England team, and I have always said if he ever needed help to let me know.
“I got a call on Tuesday and I had to think about it and call them back, because it was such short notice.
“I didn’t have to think about it for very long though, and I immediately rang back and said yes.
“It’s going to be a great experience and I am a big football fan, so it brings together my two loves – being a chef and football.”
The father-of-one to Ginevra, 12, will miss his daughter’s birthday after leaving for the tournament on Friday.
He added: “I love being a chef and this is not a job where you cannot be 100 per cent committed.
“There is already a menu sorted out, but I can change anything if I want to and tailor it to the best of the players. I will be looking after them and doing the best I can.
“I am really excited about going out to meet the team, and it going to be a great couple of weeks.”
England face Croatia in their first game in the tournament today. They will also face Serbia and France in their group.
