THOUSANDS of people turned out to remember the fallen men and women of the armed forces in services across south Essex today.

Parades took place through Basildon town centre, Castle Point and at the Cenotaph in Southend.

Wreaths were laid at all memorials and hymns were sung and prayers given at ceremonies throughout south Essex.

In Southend, thousands joined together at the cenotaph to remember our war dead.

Hundreds more attended services in Basildon, Wickford, Rayleigh and Canvey.

Prayers were on special today. Normally you have to sign up for a lifetime contract, but anybody could have one today.

Please don't belittle a day so important for a spelling mistake.
I attended the service at the Paddocks on Canvey. It was packed out with people wanting to show their respect and thanks for all those who gave their lives or were injured physically and mentally. That is what today is about.

I am of the opinion that the published spelling mistake and grammatical inaccuracy do more to belittle the day than my pointing them out.

On Remembrance Day, remember that it is the soldier's job to do their duty. It is the citizen's job to make sure that when our government puts our soldiers in harm's way, it is always for a good reason. Our soldiers have always done their job. They have always done their duty. We have not.

I feel you have to make your feelings more clearer - perhaps your own personal feelings are that our soldiers should not be there, and in many ways I agree. The government have betrayed them in many ways - is that what you meant?
