BROMSGROVE produced a stunning performance with both bat and ball as they thrashed home side Barnards Green by 183 runs in the Birmingham and District League Division One on Saturday.

A devastating bowling display built on solid performances with the willow as the Boars recorded their second league win to rise up to fourth in the table.

The visitors did not have it all their own way and after captain Jayden Levit won the toss and elected to bat, they lost Jayden Levitt (0) and George Rhodes (7) cheaply to leave them struggling on 17-2.

Worcestershire's Graham Cessford asked further questions with the ball, but Ash Newdick and Adam Gailey took the score to 98 before Gailey (30) was cruelly run out after a drive from his partner was deflected onto the stumps.

Joe Dodd joined Newdick and showed his intent straight away looking to dominate the bowlers. Graeme Cessford returned and produced a good delivery to remove Newdick for 45 bringing to the crease 17-year-old Lewis Cordes.

He and Dodd both hit crucial boundaries and cleared them a number of times as the run rate increased over by over.

The loss of Dodd for 66 did not slow things down as Tom Green smashed 30 off just 18 balls.

Cordes brought his half century up and Charlie Hartley hit the final ball out of the ground as Bromsgrove finished with an imposing 270-6 off 50 overs.

Chasing such a high score needed a good start and the power plays needed to be maximised but with Nick Husbands making a temporary return to the team that was never going to be easy on a pitch offering assistance.

He struck in his first over bowling Mark Hooper for a duck. Hartley then ripped out Alex Hepburn (2) and Phil Harris (0) to leave the home side it tatters at 29-3. Husbands struck again catching Elliott Hennessy LBW for nought.

It got no better for them as James Ganderton removed Jonathan Dovey for 17 with his first delivery Only skipper Andy Ford (46) offered any resistance scoring over half of his teams runs and he was last man out as his team were all out for just 87 runs. Ganderton took 4-36 off 10 overs.

Bromsgrove needed the victory and will go to Ombersley next week with confidence in the final trial game of 50 overs before the traditional format takes over for the next 11 games.
