BURY residents are advised to plan ahead for the Bank Holiday as GP surgeries will be closed on Monday.

Immediate assistance will still be available at Bury Urgent Treatment Centre, based at Moorgate Health Centre, open daily from 8am to 10pm.

Community pharmacists will also be available to provide advice without an appointment and identify symptoms.

Residents with repeat prescriptions should make sure they have enough medicine, and common ailments such as coughs, colds and flu-like symptoms can use over the counter remedies.

Dr Kiran Patel, chairman of Bury Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Common complaints, including backache, minor sports injuries, upset stomachs, coughs, colds and flu-like symptoms can be treated by having a well stocked medicine cabinet at home.

“If your GP practice is closed and you need urgent care, you can get fast access at the Bury Urgent Treatment Centre and the nurse-led Prestwich Walk-in Centre. By choosing well patients, will get the best treatment in the shortest possible time, whilst keeping emergency services available.”
