HOLLYWOOD film stars, including Sacha Baron-Cohen, could be bound for Tilbury to shoot scenes for a new film.

Scenes from Grimsby, in which Borat and Bruno star Baron-Cohen plays a football hooligan, are being filmed in Dock Road today [Thursday] and Friday.

Grimsby is Baron-Cohen’s latest film, featuring an all-star cast including his real-life wife Isla Fisher, British comedy star Johnny Vegas, Lovejoy and Deadwood star Ian McShane, Homeland actor David Harewood and Oscar-nominated Gabourey Sidibe.

Echo: Tilbury transformed into Grimsby

Shops in Tilbury have been turned into shops from Grimsby for the film

Shops in Tilbury have had their fascias and hoardings changed to make the street look like it is Grimsby in the 1980s.

Fake bus stops, adorned with Rolling Stones and The Who posters, and a fake phone box have also been put up.

Tilbury Wines in Dock Road has had a “Grimsby Fired Chicken” fascia fitted, while Right Time African Restaurant has become “Maids and Brides”. Tilbury Tattoos and Piercings has been turned into Grimsby store “Timber and Mouldings”.

Cars from the 80s are also said to be parked nearby, ready for filming.

Meanwhile Asset Chemist in Dock Road has been turned into “Humberside mini-van hire” by set designers for the new film.

No road closures are planned for today [Thursday] or Friday but a spokesman for Thurrock Council said: “Some parking has been and will be suspended on Dock Road and the Broadway from 8am on July 9 to 8pm on July 11. Some parking on Calcutta Rd will be suspended from 8am on Thursday, July 10 to 8pm on Friday, July 11.

“The licence was issued to a traffic management company working on behalf of a film company.”

It was recently revealed the plot to the film involves Mark Strong playing a covert ops agent forced to go on the run with Baron-Cohen, his estranged brother, who happens to be a football hooligan.

Scenes from the film have been shot at various other locations across the UK, including at Roots Hall, the home ground of Southend United.

Baron-Cohen was recently pictured wearing a retro England shirt, Mod-like wig complete with sideburns and Roman numerals tattoo on the inside of his arm, while filming in London.

The film is due for release in September 2015.
